i call my cat a friend. the app 
on my phone that claims to 
translate his sounds says he 
is saying Hello! hello friend i’m 
sorry that this room is small. 
that the air conditioner rattles 
us awake. and that by the time 
i figure this all out you will be old 
and i will just be older.

the way Cannoli still has his claws 
even though they just scratch up 
the floor. even though meal time 
is reliable. means: time to open up 
a can: shows the smallness of time.
pokes another hole in the big bang.
not in the way that i’ll dress in nice 
clothes every sunday. more like. how
i audited an astrophysics class and asked
about the limits of dark matter and the
man said Don’t worry that won’t be on the exam.
