Animals: “Soft Serve Snake” by Arden Hunter

Soft Serve Snake

A full-colour digital drawing of a tall ice-cream serving bowl containing a coiled up snake where you would expect the ice-cream to be. The coils of the snake suggest the curves of whipped ice-cream, and there are two cherries resting on one coil to add to the illusion. The end of the snake's tail drapes over the bowl and the snake's mouth is open and hissing. The snake is in pale shades of blue, pink and cream while the tall serving bowl is grey, the background is mint green and the table the bowl rests on is brown. There is a shadow over the left third of the scene suggesting a door has just been opened, casting light over the tableau and disturbing the snake.
I think ‘Soft serve snake’ is a good fit as it is both playful and has a deeper (possibly disturbing) message about trust and appearance.
